The Board

The Vermont Workforce Development Board advises the Governor and the Commissioner of Labor on the development and implementation of a comprehensive, coordinated, and responsive workforce education and training system.

A majority business member board, it is charged with conducting an ongoing, statewide public engagement process to gather feedback and information about the workforce education and training needs of employers, workers, and job-seekers. Members are expected to maintain familiarity with the federal Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) and other economic development planning processes, and coordinate workforce and education activities in the State. The Board meets at least three times annually, with additional committee and work group meetings as necessary.

The Board is the designated state workforce development board under the federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA). In this capacity, the Board helps to guide and inform statewide policies affecting the coordination, delivery, quality, and availability of workforce development services for job-seekers and employers.
